Dreaming Sin Fronteras (Dreaming without Borders) explores the honest and often heartbreaking stories of undocumented youth through live music, visual art and testimony. Adapted and directed by Antonio Mercado, this unique production will feature student actors from USC: Santiago Coronado, Maria Jose Placencia, Stephanie Barajas, Jonathan von Mering, and Kelechi Emetuche with rising star José Julián (Demian Bichir's son in "A Better Life") along with “DREAMers”—undocumented students who would benefit from a federal Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act—from across Los Angeles.
With live music by Shawn King (DeVotchKa), Raul Pacheco (Ozomatli), Ceci Bastida (Tijuana NO!), Stephen Brackett (The Flobots) Nick Urata (DeVotchKa) and Marisoul (La Santa Cecilia), along with visual designs by activist-artist Favianna Rodriguez, this multimedia event will powerfully communicate the narratives of young people whose lives are deeply and devastatingly defined by international borders and immigration laws.
Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative.
Organized by Josh Kun (Communication). Co-sponsored by the USC Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration and USC El Centro Chicano.
